Key Idea

There are 37 species of bryophytes grown in Eastern Himalayas painted in this picture, with 31 species of mosses, 5 species of liverworts and one species of hornwort, both endemic and widely distributed taxa. During the process of painting, the artist placed the species mainly according to their habitats and substrates, but their sizes were not to scale. This work is a microcosm of the diversity of bryophytes in the Eastern Himala-yas, a tribute to the Muscinae (a collection of mosses) drawn by the famous biologist of the 19th century, Ernst Haeckel, and it is indeed a fun treasure hunt game
